Turning To The Next Chapter
Turning to The Next Chapter
by Wong Su Yuan
Remember that time when you had to wake up before six just to hear that dreaded bell you try so hard to block out from your ears? As a gentle whisper or a hardcore wrestling move or loud ringing in your ears (depends on what wakes you up in the morning), wakes a zombie which looks oddly like yourself just to get ready to a place where you were forced to go but is somehow okay with it? Yeah, I am talking about a place where most of our memories reside from – school. Whether you were a Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie wannabe or a wallflower or a Lee Chong Wei in a making, we all had some amazing memories in school. To some of us, school was a palace above the clouds while for others, it was a hole in the ground but no matter what we envisioned it to be, most of us went through it. Take a moment to think about all those precious memories that you hold so dear whether it was good or bad.
Depending on what kind of student you are, there will be always something to joke/learn about. All those exercises, homework, tests and note-taking, just to prepare us for an exam that could somehow determine the next part of our life whether it will be a job or college. On a similar note, all those knowledge, facts and skills that was learnt in school to make the person standing in front of the mirror what he/she is today – you. Was it worth it? Of course! You are reading this post which means you can read, a difficult feat for certain people who did not get the opportunity to. You can thank the teachers and parents that made everything possible which also includes how to count and write.
That is not all! The people that we were exposed to whether it was our classmates, friends or teachers forces us to open our minds a little wider. Everyone is different, we all know that but we do not know how different they are. Being around those people will let us see the world in their point of view which shows us a wider picture of life. What we learnt in school does not have to be what we learnt in books, it is also how we interact with people around us while learning ethics and communication skills whether it is verbal or nonverbal along the way.
Thinking back now, we did learn a lot from school whether we realized it or not. No matter how many times we cursed or shed tears we will somehow miss our school days whether it is a little or by a large scale. Whatever it is, another chapter of our life is over and as we turn the page one cannot help but wonder what contents the next page consists. Do not forget about the people who make life so much worth living whether it was teachers, parents, friends or whoever that has a special place in your heart.
